Napkin Litigation and Business Ownership Disputes
Mr. Yankovich is a member of Lieb at Law's Napkin Litigation practice, representing clients in ownership disputes arising from informal business arrangements, defective governance documents, and trust-based commercial relationships.
Many companies begin with friends, family members, longtime business associates, or passive investors relying on handshakes, oral agreements, text messages, incomplete operating agreements, or longstanding industry customs instead of formal contracts. When those relationships break down, the resulting litigation often centers on disputed ownership, control, profits, fiduciary obligations, or governance rights.
He represents businesses in industries where longstanding relationships, reputation, and commercial custom frequently shape transactions, including commercial real estate, the real estate brokerage industry, automobile dealerships, wholesale distribution, jewelry and luxury goods, import and export businesses, manufacturing, hospitality, and other closely held enterprises.
Arbitration, Class Actions, and Appeals
Mr. Yankovich represents clients in private commercial arbitration as well as state and federal courts, including matters involving the enforcement of arbitration agreements, confirmation and vacatur of arbitration awards, and appellate litigation.
His experience includes disputes where industry customs, course of dealing, and informal business practices are central to determining contractual and ownership rights.
Employment Litigation and Compliance
As Chair of Lieb at Law's Employment Practice Group, Mr. Yankovich represents both plaintiffs and defendants in discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour, restrictive covenant, executive compensation, and breach of contract litigation.
He has successfully prosecuted and defended complex employment matters, including class actions and appeals, and has served as designated counsel for insurance carriers and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), giving him a perspective on employment litigation from multiple viewpoints. He also regularly represents employers, real estate brokerages, and automobile dealerships in workplace disputes, compliance matters, and regulatory proceedings.
Beyond litigation, Mr. Yankovich advises businesses on compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, drafts employee handbooks and workplace policies, conducts workplace investigations, and provides practical risk management strategies designed to minimize future litigation.
