Continuing Education
To maintain your NY real estate license, you are required to successfully complete 22.5 hours of approved real estate course work within your 2 year license term, prior to renewal. Licensees are responsible to keep completed course certificates for the Department of State. Effective for renewals on or after July 1, 2008, the 22.5 hours must include at least 3 hours of instruction pertaining to fair housing and/or discrimination in the sale or rental of real property or an interest in real property.
Obtaining a License
Lieb at Law does not currently offer qualifying courses.
Salesperson: A salesperson applicant will be required to show proof of completing 75 hours of approved education. If you completed the 45 hour salesperson course prior to July 1, 2008 you may complete the additional 30 hour qualifying course to satisfy the 75 hour requirement. Thereafter an applicant must pass the Salesperson Exam.
Broker: Broker applicants will be required to show proof of completing the 45 hour salesperson course, the 30 hour remedial course and the 45 hour broker course OR the 75 salesperson course and the 45 hour broker course. Thereafter an applicant must pass the Broker Exam. Brokers must be at least 20 years of age and either have experience as a licensed real estate salesperson for 2 years or have equivalent experience obtained in the general real estate business for 3 years.

ID Cards
Real Properly Law Section 441-a(6) requires that Real Estate Brokers and Real Estate Salespersons have a pocket card identifying such individual as a licensee. To learn more visit the Department of State’s website http://www.dos.state.ny.us/licensing.
